Admission Policy

Admissions, merit criteria, eligibility, tests, interviews, reserved seats, and document verification.

NEI welcomes applications from individuals of all geographical backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, nationalities, and physical abilities. Admission decisions are made based on the standards set by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and the Institute’s specific entry requirements, including tests and interviews.

Reserved seats are available for differently-abled individuals, religious minorities, and other special categories as outlined by HEC regulations.

The number of seats for each program is determined according to guidelines from regulatory bodies, including HEC, relevant accreditation councils, and the Institute’s Academic Council.

Admission criteria include:

  • i. Past academic performance ii. Admission test score iii. Interview score
  • The percentage weight assigned to each criterion is decided by the Dean of the relevant faculty in consultation with the Head of Department/School.
  • Candidates must meet the minimum threshold set by the respective department or school in compliance with regulatory bodies to qualify for admission.
  • If the number of qualified candidates exceeds available seats, admission will be granted based on merit calculated from the overall score in the three criteria.
  • Eligibility for a specific program is determined by the academic qualifications on which the candidate is applying.
  • All admissions remain provisional until academic documents are verified.
  • The Admissions Office processes applications, while the respective department/school designs and administers admission tests and interviews.
  • The minimum thresholds established by HEC, accreditation councils, and the Academic Council are strictly followed.
  • The prescribed student-to-teacher ratio is maintained in compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Government regulations on covered area per student and infrastructure requirements are considered when allocating seats.
  • Dropout and graduation rates influence the number of seats allocated each semester.
  • The Admissions Committee secures approvals from the Dean of the program and the Registrar’s Office before finalizing seat allocations.

Qualifications for Undergraduate Programs

  • Applicants must have completed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution/board.
  • Applicants with “A” levels or other foreign qualifications must submit an equivalence certificate issued by the Intermediate Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).
  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualification criteria set by HEC and any relevant council.

Qualifications for Master’s (MS/MPhil) Programs

  • Applicants must have completed 16 years of education in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants with foreign degrees must provide an equivalence certificate from HEC.
  • Candidates with 16 years of education in a non-relevant field must complete deficiency courses as prescribed by the department/school.
  • Applicants must pass the National Testing Service (NTS) General Test or a Institute-specific test as required by HEC and relevant councils.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications set by HEC and the concerned council.

Qualifications for PhD Programs

  • Applicants must have completed 18 years of education in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Applicants with foreign degrees must provide an equivalence certificate from HEC.
  • Candidates with 18 years of education in a non-relevant field must complete deficiency courses as prescribed by the department.
  • Applicants must pass the NTS Subject Test or a Institute-specific test as required by HEC.
  • A minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or a first division is required.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications set by HEC and the concerned council.
